Planning Your First Visit
At Edgeworth Family Dental, we understand that poor experiences with dental practices in the past can cause patients to be apprehensive when it comes to their initial consultation, therefore we have summarised below what you will be expecting on your first dental visit with us. We hope this will alleviate some anxiety that patients may have when coming to us on their initial visit.
Arrival
Upon arrival for your initial consultation, you will be greeted by our friendly reception staff, who will request that you complete a medical form. This is your opportunity to make our dentist aware of your general state of health, as this can often impact upon the condition of your teeth and gums and may effect the type of treatment that we may perform on you and the medication we may prescribe for you.
Dental Consultation
At your consultation you will have the opportunity to discuss any dental concerns you may have or how you would like us to treat you.
Our dentist will give you a full oral assessment to help accurately plan which treatments are best for the health of your mouth. During this examination, our dentist will look at:
- your teeth and the way that you bite
- the state of your original restorations if you have any, such as fillings, crowns, veneers, implants
- the health of your gums and surrounding bone around each tooth
- general condition of the soft tissues in your mouth (tongue, throat, cheeks)
Dental x-rays will also be taken of your teeth to check for:
- decay inside the tooth, under existing fillings, or between the teeth
- abscesses or cysts on the roots of your teeth
- any signs of gum disease or bone loss

Post-Consultation
Following completion of your dental examination, our dentist will discuss the findings with you, perform a scale and clean if required and apply some fluoride gel onto your teeth.
Upon leaving our Hornsby dental clinic, our dental receptionist will provide you with a treatment plan and an itemised quotation. If you are with a health fund, we can make the claims for you on the spot via Hicaps and any gap payments if any can be either paid by cash, EFTPOS or by credit card.
After payments are made, any subsequent appointments for the proposed treatment can also be made at this time.
